I’m a Believer

…blessed is she that believed… -Luke 1:45

Favorite and Current Reading April 24, 2008

The B-I-B-L-E, yes that’s the book for me…If I could only have access to only one book, it goes without saying that I would choose to have the Bible, the Living Word of God.  I love my Bible – it looks a lot like that one ——>,
only more worn and less shiny and with 3 chapters in Genesis that keep falling out.  I have a Women’s Study Bible, too, but this one is my favorite (even though they both say the same thing!).  I got it at Sam’s Club right after I got saved.  Just a “plain old” regular KJV with large print  (if you can call the Word of God “plain old” and “regular”).

If you choose to only read one book, let it be the Bible. But living in this time of overabundance, I do like to read other things along with the Bible, many times as study aids, sometimes just for fun, and often times out of sheer morbid curiosity. Anyway – here are some books that I consider favorites, and also some books I have recently read or I’m currently reading. Feel free to leave comments or recommendations.

Power of a Praying WifeFAVORITE
The Power of a Praying Wife
by Stormie O’Martian
One of the most life changing books I have ever read.  I recommend this to all women who are married or plan on being married one day.  This book, along with a nighty, is my standard shower gift for new brides.  Anything in a marriage can be fixed by prayer & lovin’!

Lies Women Believe & The Truth That Sets Them Free
by Nancy Leigh DeMoss

Wow!  What a great book!  I read this last year before our women’s conference in preparing for my message.  An eye-opening, truth-telling book for any woman.

When to Speak Up and When to Shut Up
by Dr. Micheal D. Sedler

This is a book I have recently read.  I’ve always needed help in the “Shut up” department moreso than the “Speak Up” department.  A really helpful read.  Michael Sedler is a converted Jew, and his testimony of having to speak up to his family and say “I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God” is worth taking the time to read, even though it’s in the appendix :-).

Master Potter
by Jill Austin
This book was so much fun to read.  I couldn’t put it down.  A beautiful allegory for the Christian’s journey from brokenness to beauty.

Beyond Shattered Strongholds
by  Liberty Savard
Currently reading this book.  Great insight into effective prayer for victorious living.

Have a New Kid by Friday
by Dr. Kevin Leman
Currently reading this.  Hope it helps.  I’ll let you know… Actually some techniques do seem to be having an effect (at least on me!).  🙂

Praying God’s Word
by Beth Moore
I read this in the past and have it for a frequent resource.  I’m currently using it in preparation for our Ladies’ Beach Retreat.  Wonderful teaching about prayer & God’s word.
Breaking Free
by Beth Moore
Just finished this study (my first Beth Moore study) and currently still feeling the effects of newfound freedom.  Magnificent group or individual Bible study.  I highly recommend it.

This is kind of in keeping with “Power of a Praying Wife”, which I enjoyed. When my husband and I got married 18 years ago, he told me that we would not fight and argue. If we had a problem with the other person, we would pray and let the Lord either deal with the other person, otherwise, correct our own heart. I have to say, prayer has worked. We have had a very loving and peaceful relationship which I am very grateful for. The best piece of advice I can give any newlywed is to pray for their spouse.

Praying for your spouse is an amazing life changer! It’s not so much that God changes your spouse, but He changes your heart as you pray. That’s what I’ve found…

Power of a Praying Wife – awesome book! Became extremely helpful to me when my husband and I reconciled aftera 3 month separation. Six years later, I still pick it up often and pray for my husband and his needs. Also find that it VERY often speaks to ME about MY needs. My favorite prayer from that book is the first one – “His Wife”! As I submit to God to make me a better wife, I am also releasing my husband to God and giving Him authority over our marriage – taking that huge burden off my shoulders! I recommend this book to any woman with a spiritually-challenged husband!
